How extra checked bags enhanced children’s lives
November 13, 2018
For a lot of folks, a day off during a business trip is a chance to indulge in a little comped R&R, maybe some sightseeing or a little shopping. Not for eventcorians Morgan Macenka and Anna Sabo;they used their time during the Tech Summit in South Africa to give back to the community who hosted them.
“Last year on my day off from an event in Johannesburg I had the incredible opportunity to go to a shantytown in Soweto and meet with the founders of the Kliptown Youth Program and deliver the school supplies I collected prior to leaving the US,” Morgan explains. “It was a life-changing experience that has changed my whole perspective on what really matters in life.”
So when it was time to pack for this year’s event, she wanted to give again.
“Anna set up a tour of Vamos Township and The Happy Feet Youth Project for both of us, and asked what we could bring to help out,” Morgan explains. “This after-school program focuses on getting kids interested in STEM subjects, so of course it resonated with both of us.”
With list in hand, they rallied support from the eventcorian team and packed extra bags full of art and school supplies, kid’s clothes and hygiene items that made their way to the kids in the program.
“This was a beautiful chance to support one of the communities where we work onsite, in a way that makes a real impact,” Morgan says.
It’s amazing the impact we can have when we look for these opportunities. Thanks, Morgan and Anna, for representing Stova culture halfway around the world — and lugging those extra bags with you. We love your huge, community-minded hearts.
