About Client

In August of 2022, the Gabelli School of Business partnered with Stova to host their new student orientation over the course of three events. The first event was fully virtual, introducing incoming students to the Stova platform and what to expect when arriving on-site. The second virtual portion of Orientation included a how-to to download the mobile app for the upcoming on-site event. The third event was the Gabelli School's on-site Orientation utilizing Stova's registration, badging, mobile event app, and event management solutions.

Objective

In August of 2022, the Gabelli School of Business partnered with Stova to host their new student orientation over the course of three weeks. The first event was fully virtual, introducing incoming students to the Stova platform and what to expect when arriving on-site. The second virtual portion of orientation included a how-to download the mobile app for the upcoming on-site event. The third event was the Gabelli School's on-site orientation utilizing Stova's registration, badging, mobile event app, and event management solutions.

The Gabelli School of Business came to Stova with several goals in mind:

  1. Orient new, incoming students - many of whom where international students - to the Gabelli School and to New York in general.
  2. Build community among students and staff.
  3. Track attendance and sessions happening simultaneously at different locations.

Solution

From mobile apps to registration websites, every event needs something different to meet different objectives. The Gabelli School of Business required an event management solution that was user-friendly and engaging to their younger audience of incoming students.

Mobile App

The Gabelli School of Business's mobile app was fully branded to their specifications, featuring their colors, logo, backgrounds, and more.

Campus Map

The campus map allowed students to see not only the immediate Business School, but the surrounding New York City area. With helpful stars on the map for sights to see, building locations, subfloors, and floorplans, this was an important feature.

Session Check-in

Session check-in functionality allowed the university to track which students were attending which sessions, in real-time. In this instance, they opted to use barcodes instead of QR codes. Stova's flexibility assisted them with this change.

Networking

The networking section of the mobile app facilitated new friendships and relationships across orientation. Students clicked on the app and they could search for profiles nearby. This was on of the most successful pieces of this custom build, with over 2,000 network matches created out of 271 registrants logging into the app.

Photo Sharing

Students were encouraged to post photos as they explored their new campus.

Places/Maps

Here, like for the Campus Map, this section detailed all happenings in the surrounding area. The school's incoming students were largely international - including a map of New York City and the general surroundings gave the students peace of mind. They knew, at all times, where they were in relation to the student buildings and their peers.

Conference Bag

During sessions, the students were given downloads and documents. They were also able to take notes about their sessions throughout the day within the app. The Conference Bag created a digital file for the students to email to themselves after the event.

In addition to these features, the app also included a Frequently Asked Questions microsite, orientation information with custom event logos, and search capabilities.

Event Success

The Gabelli School of Business's new student orientation brought in over 350 total registrants and created the sense of community among students and staff that Fordham University strives for. Stova's mobile app solutions showed the caliber of the school and what students can look forward to when working and studying in New York City. Overall, the event exceeded expectations for the school of business.

"Having the Stova folks there for us completely changed the game."

When asked what set Stova apart from the competition and if the Gabelli School of Business would recommend Stova, while the products met all expectations, it was the service that won them over. "We never had to search for the right guy. The incredible team stayed connected with us through all three days of orientation. All I had to do was reply to the same email and I could hop on the phone with the same exact person. [Service] was just available to us, and that was really huge and a relief... We are already telling people about Stova. We're already recommending Stova."
